You must be smarter than the welding machine.
My machine was making some very strange noises during AC TIG. The machine at school makes a nice constant buzz. My machine goes wOWowOWowOW.
I had the pulser turned off, EXCEPT... I turned the pulser off on DCEP, not AC. Apparently my machine remembers a different group of settings for each welding mode. I discovered that tonight and now my machine at home acts like my machine at school. YAY!

I want a tig... I have an OLD stick welder that I am about to inherit, an old Lincoln, if I recall correctly. But it's no tig.

craigslist, yo. There's a really decent machine on my local CL for 2100 right now. It's way fancier than my rig and only 100 more than I paid.

lol, yeah, at the moment? I'm sweating the $200 for tie rod ends and IAC valve I just spent. Lets just say the TIG (any TIG) is a bit further back on the burner for the moment.

what are you welding? you should only be set on AC for Aluminum. Gas is important as well. Pure argon will work for most metals.

Did I mention I'm a metal fabricator by trade? I have been for almost 30 years.

the TIG pulse works well when you are working with thin material and want to keep the heat to a minimum to keep the material from warping too much.

Pure tungsten electrode should be used for Aluminum as well. the tungsten should form a ball at the end if things are going well. It's really important to clean aluminum well before welding. Anything 1/4 inch think or more should be preheated before welding.
